TN Seshan told the story in a management seminar. While he was the Chief Elect Commissioner, he and his wife were traveling in a car in UP. They saw a sprawling mango garden wherein they saw large, beautiful numbers nests of sparrows. His wife was so much interested to get two numbers of the nests for their house. The police man who was accompanying them approached a boy who was was rearing cows, for the same. He was offered 10 rupees initially. He refused to accept. Then, TN Seshan said he will pay 50 rupees for which also he refused and said he will not do the same for whatsoever amount. His reason was, he said, there could be the little ones, chicks, inside the nest. In the evening, when the mother sparrow come back with food for the chicks, she will find her chicks are missing and it will start crying. The boy said I can't bear the same. TN Seshan and his wife were stunned at this sentence. He says all my positions, IAS etc melted in front of the boy as nothing. I became a small grain of mustard in front of the boy. I left the desire to get the nest.
Education, coat and suit are never the measures of humanity.
